The Masses and services of the Easter Triduum
as celebrated in the Diocese of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.Though various circumstances may keep a person from physically attending Mass,
such can never separate one from our Lord Jesus Christ.
As you watch, meditate, and follow along with the liturgies as broadcast below,
please join in prayer with the celebrant and those assisting, as well as others viewing
to give glory and honor to the Savior of all.

Holy Thursday, April 17, 2025

The Chrism Mass marks the institution of the priesthood. Priests renew their ordination promises. At this Mass the bishop consecrates the three oils (chrism, the catechumens, the Infirmed) that parishes and the diocese will use throughout the year.

The Holy Thursday Mass of the Lord's Supper is offered on this day.
At this Mass, the celebrant washes the feet of 12 people, in emulation of Jesus humbly washing the feet of His disciples.

An Act of Spiritual Communion
My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament.
I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul.
Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally,
come at least spiritually into my heart.
I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You.
Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.

Good Friday Service of the Passion of the Lord is the Church's official liturgy of the day. || Tenebrae is often refered to as the 'Service of Darkness', due to the gradual extinguishing of candles wthin the ceremony. It dates to at least the 9th century. The service, near its end and in darkness, features the 'strepitus' (a loud noise), symbolizing the earthquake that followed Christ 's death on the cross.
