On the weekend of October 22/23, 2022, a second collection will take place to support World Mission Sunday. Pope Francis emphasizes the call to every Christian to bear witness to Christ, to participate in a mission of universal evangelization, and to seek strength and guidance from the Holy Spirit. The Holy Father also points to the example of Blessed Pauline Jaricot, foundress of the Society for the Propagation of the Faith, as a way to respond to that missionary call, through prayer and charity.
Our own prayers and sacrifices on World Mission Sunday will support priests, religious Sisters and Brothers, and lay pastoral leaders who are proclaiming the Gospel, building the Church, and serving the poorest communities in territories covering more than half the globe. They know how their practical help – and devoted prayer – enables missionaries to work and witness to Christ, as it enables each one of us to be the Lord’s witnesses, as reflected in this year’s theme: “You shall be My witnesses” (Act 1:8)
