A parish-wide Lenten Retreat Day will be offered at St. John the Baptist, Monaca, on Saturday, March 5, 2022 from 11:00AM to 4:00PM. This special retreat will be led by Fr. Basil Burns, OSB (speaking on "Fatima and the Meaning of Reparation") and Fr. Cassian Edwards, OSB (speaking on "Lent and the Sacred Liturgy").
This retreat schedule is, as follows:
11:00AM — Welcome; Conference I
12Noon — Lunch
1:00PM — Stations of the Cross
2:00PM — Conference II
3:00PM — Eucharistic Adoration; Sacrament of Reconciliation (Confession)
4:00PM — Closing Mass

Fr. Basil Burns, O.S.B., Ph.D., was ordained in 2001 and defended his dissertation on St. Thomas Aquinas’s theory of love and intimacy in 2013. A native of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, he has preached retreats and engaged in parish work for most of his ministry. He has been an educator, pastor, missionary in Canada, and retreat master. Presently, he has re-entered monastic life at St. Vincent Archabbey in Latrobe, Pennsylvania where he teaches philosophy, offers spiritual direction, and is involved in campus ministry. His research interests include philosophical anthropology and the influence of philosophy on theology.
Fr. Cassian Edwards, OSB, at the presentation of the Right Reverend Martin R. Bartel, OSB, Archabbot of Saint Vincent Archabbey, is currently serving as a part-time Parochial Vicar at Saint Joseph the Worker Parish, (Braddock/Churchill/Forest Hills/Swissvale/Turtle Creek/Wilmerding) beginning on Friday, October 15, 2021 while continuing his studies.
Fr. Cassian served the MACH1 Parish Grouping, now Mary, Queen of Saints Parish, as a deacon from July 2020 until the time of his ordination. He was ordained to the priesthood by Most Rev. Larry J. Kulick, J.C.L., Bishop of the Diocese of Greensburg, on May 22, 2021 in the Saint Vincent Archabbey Basilica.
