In the Gospel, a man’s healing was both physical and a metaphor for the spiritual healing that Jesus offers to all of us. As in the psalm, we are healed from our sins when we turn to Jesus, repent and follow Him.
Jesus wants to do more than free us as individuals. Christians should never live in isolation, as those with leprosy did. Jesus calls us into community, which is the Church. He enables us to live together, grow together and to forgive each other as members of our parish, our diocese and the Universal Church.
That’s what it means to be “One Heart, One Church”. One way to show we are “One Heart, One Church” is by giving to the Annual Parish Appeal. Our gifts promote Christian community. They provide ministry in prisons, nursing homes and on college campuses. They help immigrants keep the faith and adapt to American life. They prepare lay volunteers and staff members to serve as catechists, pastoral associates, parish business managers and in other ministries that help all of us to follow God.
Knowing that Jesus loves us and our sins are forgiven should fill us with so much joy that, like the man healed from leprosy, we cannot contain ourselves. We should be so eager to tell others about what God has done for us that we have standing- room-only Masses. The Parish Appeal gives us the guidance and support to be the kind of witnesses who manifest a church of jubilant believers and vibrant worship.
“Joy of Giving” Campaign
Discover the profound transformation that giving makes on your heart, soul and mind as you share Christ’s love through selfless acts. Mark 12:31 calls us to "love your neighbor as yourself." In that love, we find joy; and the “Joy of Giving Challenge” text message campaign will help you on that path.
Each day, you'll receive inspiring texts that embody the "One Heart, One Church" theme of our Annual Parish Appeal. Text JOINJOY to 84576. The challenge kicks off on February 5 with 5 days of inspiration from the saints and continues from February 11–March 11 with messages on cultivating joy in giving.
