In addition, he will return to Mary, Queen of Saints Parish to offer a Mass of Thanksgiving in each of our churches, providing parishioners an opportunity to greet him and receive First Blessings at a reception that will follow in each church's social hall. David C. Schmidt Jr., the son of Kimberly and David Schmidt, Sr. was born on June 7, 1991. David has three brothers, Ryan, Vincent and Dominic, and one sister, Nicole.
David’s home parish is the former Saint Fidelis of Sigmaringen, now St. Conrad Church, which is part of All Saints Parish in Butler. He attended Butler Catholic Elementary School before graduating from Butler Area High School in 2009. David graduated from California University of Pennsylvania in 2012 with a Bachelor of Science in Sports Management. In 2014, and received a Masters in Sports Management from Old Dominion University, Norfolk, Virginia. His more recent employment was that of Director of Young Adult Ministry at Saint Fidelis Parish.
In Fall 2015, David was accepted into the priestly formation program, and completed two years of pre-theology studies at Saint Paul Seminary and Duquesne University. David was assigned to Theological College and The Catholic University of America, Washington, DC to begin theological studies in Fall 2017. In the summer of 2018, Schmidt participated in the seminarian program of the Institute for Priestly Formation at the University of Creighton in Omaha, Nebraska.
In June 2019, he began his Pastoral Year assignment at the parishes of Saint Frances Cabrini, Center; Saint John the Baptist, Monaca; Our Lady of Fatima, Hopewell; and Saint Titus, Aliquippa. He advanced to Candidacy to Holy Orders by Bishop Zubik on Ascension Thursday, May 21, 2020. Then in Fall 2020, he returned to Theological College and The Catholic University of America for his third year of theological studies. David was ordained to the transitional diaconate on Saturday, June 12, 2021 at St. Fidelis of Sigmaringen Parish, Butler with Bishop William Waltersheid, presiding; and then, was assigned again to Mary, Queen of Saints Parish on July 1, 2021. In the fall of 2021, he returned to Theological College to begin his final year of theological studies.
Deacon David was ordained to the holy priesthood on June 25, 2022 at 10:00AM in the Cathedral of St. Paul in Oakland, PA for the Diocese of Pittsburgh, Bishop David Zubik, presiding.
