After last year's Lenten Fish Fry Dinner season, a discussion was held concerning the future of the Lenten fundraiser. As all are well aware, the cost of fish, fries and other items needed to complete a dinner have gone up tremendously. Also, the preparation time and effort required each week is substantial. Additionally, EVERYONE has a fish fry — bars, restaurants, clubs and fire halls as well as Our Lady of Fatima School. From that discussion, it was decided to go in a different direction — we will make and sell… PIEROGI!
One of the factors in the decision is that no other church in our area makes them. (St. George Byzantine Church in Aliquippa does, but only on the 2nd Friday of each month.) Another plus, only a few ingredients are needed: flour, potatoes, onions, butter, and such. A ‘sheeter’ (dough press) was recently purchased to do the rolling, which has always been the hardest part of pierogi making.
However,… we are in need of volunteers to roll potato balls, cut circles in the dough, and pinch edges to create delicious pierogi. And the best part is,… no experience is necessary. All that is needed is volunteers to help. Yes, you!
With Lent around the corner, please watch the bulletin for more information on the Project Pierogi.
The first Pierogi-Making Session is scheduled for Monday, January 29, 2024 starting at 9:30AM in Titan Hall at our parish's St. Titus Church location.
